Giving

The foundation is not about just donating money; our aim is about building a relationship to a cause and a community.

How Can We Help

We direct our giving to non-profit organizations that address key community needs with sustainable solution and measurable results. To ensure the Foundation provides value across charity levels we employ a three tier giving philosophy that awards funds and resources to corporate, community and employee hosted organizations:

Tier 1: Annual Corporate Award

  • Foundation Board recommendation
  • Corporate Board review and approval
  • 25% 2014 overall giving

From a corporate perspective the Spectrum Leadership will designate a qualified organization from the pool of submitted community requestors to receive our primary/largest charitable contribution (25% of annual giving) in a given year. Our intent is to impact immediate and near term community needs.

Tier 2: Annual Community Awards

  • Community Solicitation (Call: Jan – Jul)
  • Award Aug/Sep
  • Foundation Board approval
  • 25% of 2014 overall giving

The Community Awards represents our commitment and partnership with our local communities to address their identified needs. Organizations are encourage via advertisement and direct contact to submit charitable contribution request in our identified focus areas. The Awards application period is open annually from January to July with committee selection and award announcement in September.

Tier 3: Employee Sponsored Awards

  • Employee Driven
  • 50% of 2014 overall giving
  • Foundation Board approval

More Information

The Employee Sponsored Awards tap into the individual philanthropy of Spectrum employees by gifting qualified 501(3)c organizations and activities our people are involved with and passionate about. Requests may be in the form of a direct organization donation, an activity and/or event sponsorship or matching funds for Employees and families participation/contributions. All gifts are limited to no greater than $1000 and subject to Spectrum Foundation review and approval.



In order to be selected for charitable support:

In order to achieve a greater impact of our philanthropic mission the Spectrum Foundation annually develops select areas for giving support.

  1. Organizations MUST establish IRS 501 (c)(3) status.
  2. To accommodate the number of requests we receive, organizations are generally funded $500 to $1000.
  3. If the organization meets the above requirements, please complete the Request Form and submit it, along with a copy of your IRS tax letter and 501 (c)(3) status via the Spectrum Foundation website or postal service.
  4. Requests should be submitted NLT 31 July of the current year for award consideration in the coming year.
  5. Next year Annual Corporate Award (25% of annual giving) will also be selected from pool of submitted Annual Award request.

The Spectrum Foundation will NOT provide charitable support for:

  • For-profit ventures
  • Religious groups for religious purposes
  • Capital campaigns, endowment funds or memorials
  • Lobbying, political or fraternal activities
  • Individuals (scholarships, stipends, personal assistance)
  • Individual study, research or travel grants
  • Salaries
  • Government agencies
  • Deficit funding
  • Loans or investments
