Cookbook

The Spectrum Foundation wished to create a cookbook saluting the military personnel, family, and friends across all the service branches including those local groups of heroes that don't always receive the recognition deserved. This cookbook serves as a tribute for the century's old tool for unifying families, friendships, and military units across the nation and serving abroad.

From the local firemen who fill the firehouse with the smells of palatable works of art to the cook tent in the middle of the desert that is a reprieve from the exhausting call of duty, food has served as a common enjoyment across the ages.

Thank you to everyone who contributed to the creation of this cookbook - it would not have happened without you.

I was pleasantly surprised to find that the cookbook was very well put together. It has recipes that we will definitely use and some great ones our family is already in love with (you have to try the Red Velvet cake!) I highly recommend this cookbook not only to support the Foundation's efforts in helping military families and the communities we live in, but because it truly is a great cookbook!

The Spectrum Foundation American Heroes Cookbook brings me back to my grandmother's kitchen-lots of "family" recipes that have been time tested for years. As we approach winter, there are plenty of cold weather stews and casseroles to try. I am also pleased to see so many low-fat and low-calorie recipes. The dedication to our "heroes" makes this a great gift for anyone, including yourself!

When I saw the finished cookbook I must admit that I was impressed with the quality of the book as well as the selection of recipes. You can tell that some are old family recipes and some are creations of die hard foodies. This cookbook will become a go to part of our home cookbook collection. It was an honor to see recipes donated by the Ft. Monroe Spouses and Civilians Club. They have played an integral role in the lives and activities of the base and made this one of their final actions prior to the deactivation of Ft. Monroe in September 2011.

As a USAF Veteran and staunch supporter of our Spectrum Foundation I found that the American Heroes Cookbook was a real labor of 'Commitment to and Support of" the military personnel and their families for all that they do to keep Our America Free. Make no mistake; this American Heroes Cookbook will be your best source for many opportunities to show off your kitchen skills with the help of those seasoned folks who provided their 'tried and true' mouth watering recipes.

At first glance anyone can tell that this is not your ordinary cookbook … no, it is filled with many generations both past and present of tasty recipes From the uniqueness of Cinnamon Banana Waffles (they are yummy) to Mom's Meatloaf (just like my Mom used to make) you can truly find a variety of superb recipes that will tantalize any pallet. By the way, don't miss the 'easy to make even for a bachelor' Triple Layer Gelatin … A real memory jogger for a great summertime afternoon snack enjoyed in Grandma's kitchen.

I believe that every American household should have a few of their family recipes stored away for generations to come. This cookbook brings together many families celebration of traditions, history, and memories that they have graciously shared with us. There are not many books which have such a wide-ranging "flavor" of personalities, memories, and a celebration of the freedom that makes it possible for Americans to enjoy. Truly a success!!
